Little Libraries Paint-A-Thon

The Barbados is Blooming project received a major boost on Saturday 9th December 2023. Volunteers from the Barbados YouthADVANCE Corps, the Massy Foundation Barbados Inc. and the Prince Godwill D. Fomusoh Foundation Inc. joined together for over three hours to paint almost a dozen little libraries. which are set to be placed at resource and community centres across Barbados to trigger a revival in reading.

One of the Directors of the Massy Foundation, Dawn Layne, said the idea behind the Barbados is Blooming Initiative is to get reading back into Barbadian communities because there’s been a decline since the advent of the covid-19 pandemic.

Managing Director of the Prince Godwill D. Fomusoh Foundation Inc, Anita Sundaram lauded the initiative saying they had a great response from volunteers who used vibrant colours to paint the Little Libraries which will now be placed all across Barbados in the community and resource centres.

One of the volunteers in the Paint-A-Thon, Crystal Tudor of the Barbados Youth Advanced Corps described the exercise as “fun and entertaining , adding that they had a blast, and were happy to do their part to help.” Ms Tudor said it was a blessing to take part in the Little Libraries Project and would have no hesitation doing so again if called upon.

The Community Development Department is one of the partners in the initiative with one library already installed at the Parkinson Resource Centre, supplying free books to the children of the Pinelands community.
