CDD World Cup Finals Watch Party at Clapham
July 24, 2026
Chief Community Development Officer, John Hollingsworth has described their World Cup Finals Watch Party at the Clapham Community Centre in St Michael as a remarkable success.
He says it was an initiative of the community’s Centre Management Committee which was formed just two weeks ago.
Mr Hollingsworth says the CDD was fully supportive of the idea and assisted the Centre Management Committee in tangible ways with over 150 persons attending the event to watch the final between Spain and Argentina, which Spain won 1-0 in extra time.

He says it helped “to foster a sense of community and togetherness adding that the Youth Development Department partnered with the CDD to ensure the initiative was a success.”
Mr Hollingsworth believes this is a model opportunity communities can use to bring families together through sport.
“Therefore I am pleased, not only with the turnout but especially the young men and the children, who came out in their numbers through the attraction of the kid zone with their parents.”
“We are very pleased with the outcome this afternoon and we hope it can be replicated, so we will seek to identify more opportunities to bring communities together,” Mr Hollingsworth remarked.
The World Cup Final Watch Party at Clapham Community Centre ran from 2pm to 8pm and turned out to be an evening of football, fellowship, food, drink and family.
Chairman of the Centre Management Committee, Ryan Holford thanked the CDD for partnering with them to ensure the initiative was a resounding success.

Director of Youth Affairs, Cleviston Hunte, Manager of the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme, Ryan Moseley and Senior Community Development Officer, Heather Jones, were among several government officials that supported the event.
